Student Code of Conduct
The following is a brief overview of the Schoolwide Behaviour Expectations and the Student Code of Conduct (PDF, 1.56MB).
School Pride
As a place of learning our school values:
Participation
Relationships
Integrity
Diligence
Enthusiasm
We aim to develop and instil in our students self-discipline, responsibility and respect for the rights of others – the rights of all students to learn, the rights of teachers to teach and the rights of all to feel safe. Students, and their parents/carers, are asked to read the Student Code of Conduct and to agree, in writing, to uphold the reputation of Harristown State High School by abiding by this plan and related rules and requirements as listed.
School Uniform and Appearance
Harristown State High School is a uniform school.
Expectations include:
Students out of uniform must bring a note from their parents/carers to school.
Appropriate footwear must be worn for students to participate in subjects involving high risk activities.
Wearing of sunscreen and a hat is encouraged.
No undergarments should show outside or through the school uniform.
Hair should be a natural colour, clean, tidy and tied back for certain tasks and activities.
Only natural coloured make-up is permitted.
Only natural coloured nail polish is permitted.
Jewellery is discouraged on the basis of safety. If worn it should complement the uniform.
Further guidelines are available in the Dress Code.
Mobile Phones and Personal Technology Devices
When used as a teaching tool under teacher direction these devices should be used appropriately and responsibly. At other times they should be turned off and out of sight. These items are brought to school at the risk of the owner.
Internet
Students need to have parental permission before they use the internet. A permission slip is included in the enrolment pack.
The school has strict guidelines on internet usage and has put in place software designed to screen the school from access to inappropriate internet sites. As a further safeguard there are strict monitoring procedures for email and internet.
Absence/appointments/lateness
Parents/carers should phone the school prior to or on the day of the absence, on the absence hotline (07) 4636 8789.
Years 10, 11 and 12 students require a medical certificate if they are absent for an exam or piece of assessment.
If students are late they should bring a note from a parent/carer and report to the office before going to class.
If students have to leave school for any reason they should provide a note from their parent/carer. This note should be presented at the student counter in the office, so that sign out processes can be followed. These processes provide essential information necessary for effective emergency procedures and to maintain accurate student attendance records.
Complaints Management Process
Harristown State High School appreciates and acknowledges that parents, carers, students and community members have a right to make a complaint.
The Complaints Management Process outlines how to lodge a complaint and how Harristown SHS will manage complaints that are made.
