Year 9 Healthy Hawks

Year 9 students welcomed Mr Dan Stewart to their Healthy Hawks session on leadership yesterday. Mr Stewart is an past Harristown SHS student and has been busy since his days of school plays, Arts days and School Captain duties. He has travelled extensively, been a part of Empire Theatre productions, purchased Metro café with his brother Jake in 2009 and, just last year, opened the café Bounce. He also operates D for Drama, the resident drama program operating out of The Grid in Russell Street. He asked students to think about a role model. His own are Terry Pratchett, Shaun Tan, Bryce Courtney, the Dalai Lama and his parents.

Role models are the best form of leadership, Mr Stewart explained. They lead every day through their actions. He told the Year 9 students that they are leaders, influencing others. As leaders, he asked them to

• Do things that make you happy

• Ask questions

• Think for yourself

• Think of other people.

We appreciate Mr Stewart’s time in speaking about this very important topic.

Mr Schick, the Year 9 Coordinator, announced that 130 students had nominated to attend the Year 9 experience at Emu Gully, Helidon. The Emu Gully Experience is on Thursday 28th March from 8.45am to 5pm. It will cost $45 and full payment must be made to the P&C Shop by the 20th March. The permission and medical forms were due to Mr Schick by the 20th February. There are a few places left and students should collect a form from Mr Schick as soon as possible if they wish to go.
