School Immunisation Program

25/01/2018

Year 7

In 2018, your child in Year 7 is offered free vaccines against human papillomavirus (HPV) and
diphtheria-tetanus-whooping cough (pertussis).

Year 10

In 2018, your child in Year 10 is offered free vaccine against meningococcal ACWY disease.

Year 7 and Year 10

The school will provide vaccination consent packs through your child on Monday 29th January.

Immunising your child is important because:

  • he/she needs a booster dose for diphtheria-tetanus-pertussis (whooping cough)
  • some immunisations need to be given in early adolescence (human papillomavirus)
  • Vaccination is free for your child through the School Immunisation Program for a limited time – take advantage of this while your child is eligible.

If you haven’t received the vaccination consent pack contact the school or download the consent card and information booklet from https://publications.qld.gov.au/dataset/school-based-vaccination-program

Return the completed and signed vaccination consent card to the school by Monday 5th February.

Only students with a completed and signed vaccination consent card will be vaccinated.

Please ensure your child has had breakfast on the day of vaccination and wears loose and comfortable clothing.

Let the school know as soon as possible if your child is going to be absent on the day of the school vaccination.

If your child misses the school immunisation, he/she can still be immunised:

  • at a catch-up school immunisation clinic (check with the school who your service provider is)
  • at a free community immunisation clinic (if offered by your local council or immunisation
  • service provider)
  • for meningococcal ACWY, take your child to your doctor or community immunisation clinic before the end of the following year
  • for HPV it is important the vaccination is completed before the end of the following year. If your child does not commence vaccination until 15 years or older, three doses of HPV vaccine is required at 0,2 and 6 months. The third dose may not be funded and will cost approximately $150.
