Red Lion Cup News

It has been a busy week for Girls Football.  The Senior Girls HSHS 1 Blue team played St Joseph’s Stanthorpe in a semi-final of the Darling Downs Secondary Schools Red Lion Cup. The team played some classic one touch football and kept possession of the ball well, establishing a commanding 3 – 0 lead early  in the first half with goals to Danielle Bigby, Katie Orange and Amelia Cooke. Shi Munro rounded out the Harristown scoring by coolly slotting a 4th goal, before St Joseph’s scored a consolation goal, making the final score 4 – 1.

HSHS White played Glennie in Red Lion Cup semi-final on Wednesday. In extremely cold & blustery conditions, HSHS played a large percentage of the 1st half, defending their goal, having only limited opportunities to attack. On the occasions when they could mount an attacking raid, Sarah Glass had a great opportunity to score, but the goal keeper pulled off a good save. In the ensuing play, a penalty was awarded for a Glennie hand ball in the box. Jade Quinlan stepped up to take the penalty, but again the keeper stopped the shot. Luckily Caitlyn Stocker was on hand to follow in and tuck the ball away. Taylor Reeves then extended the lead 2 minutes later with a well taken goal, that broke the Glennie team. Glennie struck back straight after half time, however, the girls kept their nerve and went back to playing balls to feet and moving the ball quickly. Caitlyn Stocker sealed the deal with 5 minutes to go, making the end score line 3-1.

HSHS White will now play HSHS Blue on Wednesday night 17 September at Middle Ridge Park.  See you there.
