Combine 12 days, 3 States, 4 Cities, 60 hours of flying, 8 airports, 10 games, 3 homestays, 1 theme park, 1 college football game, Major League Baseball, 3 shopping trips, 24 players and 4 staff and you have a very successful and hectic football tour.

The team visited Denver, Boulder and Phoenix to play games against the elite clubs of Colorado Edge, Westminster AFC, Boulder FC and Gilbert Arsenal.

Despite not winning a game on tour the girls proved they can match it with the best in those States with close 1 goal losses to the 4th best team in Colorado and the Arizona under 16 State Champions. They had to contend with very different surfaces, altitude (one of the games was at 7000 feet) and playing in 40 degree heat.  Only 1 sprained ankle after 10 hours of football was a blessing.

Although filled with trepidation at the start, the homestay arrangements turned out to be one of the highlights of the tour. Players stayed with the families of the girls they played against and were given an insight into how they live, study and play in the US.

Visiting Highland Hawks High School was also a highlight of the tour. How unique that a school in Arizona has Hawk Sport and Hawk Talk! The girls had a lot of fun playing around with Hawk TV – the daily news broadcast.

No trip to the USA would be complete without a trip to Los Angeles and visits to Venice Beach, Hollywood and Santa Monica. 16 hours at Disneyland was just enough as well when you consider one group lined up for 2 hours for the ‘Cars’ ride!

Most girls would agree that the tour was by far the best experience they have had in their lives and, who knows, maybe we created a legacy for others to follow in years to come.
