Olivia and Shardean at the 2013 Ski Trip. You could be there this year - see Mr Martin for details.

Assembly Leaders: Harry Soric and Maddison Barnes

Assembly opened with the National Anthem performed by The Ensemble and Rianna Jenkinson.  The Acknowledgement of Country was presented by Jordan Kuhn.

The absence of Year 9 students from Assembly was acknowledged as they again sit the NAPLAN Testing today and tomorrow.

Mr Green spoke about four items today and challenged students to remember them:

  1. Mr Green will be absent from school for the next 2 weeks to meet with other Principals and tour all other schools in the Darling Downs South West Region as part of the planning and preparation for the entry of Year 7 students into high school.  In his absence, Ms Monagle will be Acting Principal and Mr Potter will be Acting Barang Deputy Principal.
  2. Mr Green's vision for our school is to be a high performing school. Posters are around school that encourage us to that vision.  One of the steps in our journey to become a high performing school is that we target our attendance: 90% every day. Mr Green noted that students who attend poorly struggle to do well. Attend every day students.
  3. The school values relationships but Mr Green is concerned by increasing displays of physical affection.  He encouraged us to conduct good relationships and be hands off in a public place.
  4. Remember our Look as Harristown students.  Just as Mr Green maintains his dress standard even when keeping warm, students should wear the uniform with pride and not detract from it with different coloured jumpers, scarves or hats.  Ensure you have all parts of the correct uniform. The list of unisex items for winter wear and the updated price list can be found under the Uniform Shop

Students enjoyed Emma and Kirsten's Health Presentation on breaking the habit of childhood obesity.  Students and families are welcome to attend informative and interactive presentations on Friday 16 May at either 3.30 p.m. or 5 p.m. in the Lecture Theatre.

Mr Martin spoke about the Ski Trip. There are 64 students currently going so spaces are available. It is now open to Year 10 students. See Mr Martin for information. Numbers need to be definite by Friday.

There will be a Volleyball meeting for any students who are interested in participating in the Darling Downs Schools Cup competition (to compete in volleyball against other schools from across the Darling Downs region) at the start of 1st break Thursday 15 May in the blue gym.  The Darling Downs Schools Cup will be on Friday 30 and Saturday 31 May.
