Assembly leaders: Sports Prefects Madie Franke and Coran Smith

The Ensemble and Rianna Jenkinson opened Assembly by performing the National Anthem.

Travis Turnbull presented the Acknowledgement of Country.

Mr Green opened his address by explaining how as educators we strive to improve by seeking feedback and checking for understanding.  Last week's key message: think about what you think about and don't let toxic thoughts in your head was received by many students and he encouraged students to listen carefully to retain the messages given on Assembly.

This week's theme was 'Positioning yourself for success'.

As students, the desired position is one of success which students can attain by:

  1. Being here - Student attendance is crucial. Be here more than the target 90% of the time.
  2. Demonstrating your best Behaviour and best Effort.
  3. Practising effective habits. Ms Monagle explained that the 3 best Habits of Mind for success are Persisting, Managing Impulsivity and Listening with Understanding and Empathy. Persistence and Managing Impulsivity are habits that need to be managed so you can find a way to succeed. Healthy habits around listening to other people is important so that we can find success with other people. 90% of our behaviour is habitual. Successful people are people of good habits.

Kaitlyn and Brooke and Fruit Man promoted the Health Education Seminars taking place around the school.  They spoke about the obesity epidemic and the choices we make.  Healthy Eating habits combined with regular exercise can prevent obesity.  One of the seminars is on Monday 12th May at 5.15pm in the Lecture Theatre.

Coran and Madie spoke about the Cross Country results and Mr Green presented certificates and trophies to the winners and place getters named in a previous article.  Chloe Hunt accepted the trophy for Barang as winners of the combined Cross Country and Fun Run Participation.  Zac Bruggemann accepted the trophy for Balkuin for Overall Inter House Cross Country Champions.

The Fun Run results were announced and certificates for those students will be in Form Class rolls.  Congratulations to R06, B06, G11 and Y04 for being the best form classes in their respective houses.  Special mention for S04 for gaining the highest number of laps with 247 completed in the afternoon.
