Principal’s address

Mr Green spoke on the following topics:
  • Congratulations to Year 10 and 11 students for completing another year of education. He wished the students well for the holidays.
  • Reflection on how we handle the difficult moments in our life. Can I handle this better? Can I behave in such a way that I put the needs of others before myself?

Premier’s Reading Challenge

Erin and Shaelie spoke about the Premier's Reading Challenge (PRC), an annual state-wide initiative for state and non-state schools and home-educated students up to Year 9. The majority of the Year 7 English classes were involved and we also had a few Year 8 students reading in the challenge too. The challenge is not a competition but aims to improve literacy and encourage children to read widely for pleasure and learning. For a student to successfully complete the challenge they must read 15 books during the reading period.
Why read?
Literacy skills are vital to ensuring children have the best chance to succeed in their schooling and life. The Premier’s Reading Challenge is an opportunity for students to be enthusiastic about reading, writing, authors and illustrators. Reading a variety of books builds vocabulary and knowledge, improves spelling and comprehension, can improve confidence, and it’s also a great way to relax.
The class with the most number of books read over the challenge was Mr Holcombe’s 7D English class. The next class with the most number of books read was Mrs Campbell’s 7C English class. Well done to these two English classes.
Congratulations to the following students who received certificates for achieving the 15 books during the reading period:
  • Anastasia Dioth
  • Shayel Fiedler
  • Nick Lavers
  • Jaimey Bauer
  • Emma Beare
  • Alyrah Beezley
  • Cienna Beveridge
  • Molly Brown
  • Telica Carlyon
  • Teliah Reid
  • Jeanne Bwira Bukiza
  • Zara-Rose Murphy
  • Erin Emes

International Schools Program

Mrs Parker farewelled our Exchange students Takuma, from Japan, and Giovanna, from Italy. Both students shared memories of their time in Australia, thanking students for their friendship.

Mr Green presented Takuma and Giovanna with gifts on behalf of the school. If your family has a spare bedroom, the school is currently looking for a place for a student next year. Please contact Mrs Apsey if you have room in your house and heart.

Year 8 Camp

Shaelie and Milrus spoke about the enjoyable camp held at the end of Term 3 and Assembly enjoyed a slide show of images from the camp.
