Assembly Leaders: Scott and Brittania

Acknowledgment of Country: Jerome Robinson

Principal’s address

Mr Green welcomed the Assembly to Term 4, especially new students, staff and Acting Deputy for Bonda, Mr Ian Brackstone. He spoke on the following:

  • Arts Day: Bonda had a great day on our Arts Day taking the trophy. Congratulations to all Arts Day performers for their participation, having a go and taking risks while entertaining the school.
  • Attendance: Balkuin won Term 3 attendance award and are leading for Term 4 attendance. The school percentage 89.89% asking students to turn up and achieve a first for our school of 90%.
  • Failure: Mr Green purchased a Penny (professional) skateboard and made a commitment to learn how to ride it. He admitted to being hopeless, despite the many offers of help. He would appreciate a loan of a larger learner skateboard to continue but at this stage acknowledges that he may be seen to be a failure. JK Rowling on the topic of failure said, It is impossible to live without failing at something, unless you live so cautiously that you might as well not have lived at all - in which case, you fail by default.” Mr Green encourages students to have a go. If you fail, just have another go.
  • Student Success: Congratulations to Kayla, an R15 student in Year 11 with straight ‘Excellent’ ratings on her report and 95.29% attendance, who wins the $20 gift voucher.
  • Mental Health: Mr Green encourages students to find that person you trust to talk about it. We have a school that practices compassion and listening and students can access support from Guidance, Youth Support and counselling staff, Teachers and Teacher aides. You are not born a winner. You are not born a loser. You are born a chooser. Anonymous. We each have situations in our life were we say ‘I’m a winner no problems’ or I’m a loser there’s no solution . I’m a chooser: I choose to acknowledge that I’m experiencing something at the moment; I will take action; I will turn up; I will talk with someone about it.
