Junior Secondary leaders and students assisted with today’s assembly: ESS – Every Student Succeeds

What does it mean at this school to be succeeding?

Students are meeting with Mr Green to answer that question from a student's point of view.

Captains Molly and Teanna reflected on Harristown’s 11th year involved with Creative Generations State Schools on Stage.  They noted the students who were selected by audition for places on the team, their long hours of rehearsal. They thanked the teachers who supported the CGen team and all team members were presented with certificates.

Sleep Out

Prefect Jess explained that every night 19 838 Queenslanders have no place to call home, no place to go and no place to sleep. The stereotype for homeless people has always been middle-aged men whereas the statistics show that 42% of homeless people are women under the age of 30 and 12% are children the same age as you right now.

Prefect Caspian explained the role of St Vincent de Paul Society, Vinnies, to make a difference. The school’s Sleep Out will raise funds for the organisation and support those in need. Vinnies is also running low on their supply of clothes nationwide so the SRC are collecting donations of clothes on the night too.

Fight homelessness by experience life as a homeless person:

  • Date: 9th September
  • Who: Senior students (Years 10, 11 and 12)
  • Cost: $10 (keep receipt as ticket on the night)
  • Bring: Only your sleeping bag (experience life as a homeless person)

Permission forms with all the information can be collected from Mrs Clarry and need to be returned by Friday 2nd September.

Students and parents should ‘like’ the school’s Facebook page so that they can get quick and out-of-hours updates about school activities and events (e.g. This week’s cancellation of TSSS Athletics). Download the QSchools app and allow notifications for easy access to news, events and critical notifications.
