Principal's Address

Mr Green spoke briefly about his recent absence from school as a review team member at Morayfield State High School. He spoke of the student's modelled friendliness, explaining that the students are willing to have a chat, look others in the eye and not ignore visitors. These are traits he sees in our students and encouraged them to always act that way towards visitors to our school.

He also spoke highly of the weekend's "Great Australian Rock Musical" and the students who were involved.  He was very proud of the students and staff, commending them on their fabulous efforts for our school.

Self-discipline
“The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago. The second best time is now.”  Chinese Proverb

School Captain Matthew Bailey defined self-discipline and related the story of Jerry Rice as an example.

He urged students to plant the tree of self-discipline in your life today.

Arts Day

Tesi and Jadzia and Keely promoted Arts Day. Flipping excited, jumping for joy, head over heels with excitement. Be involved - dance, sing, act, show a film or be part of a theatre sports team. Junior and senior categories exist and you can enter as a solo, as a partner or in a group. Entry forms available from G block.

Relay for Life

Christine Byers thanked students for participating in Relay for Life. She described the Olive McMahon Lodge as an example of the work of the Cancer Council, providing support for those who are undergoing cancer treatment.

Harristown students showed openness and willingness to spend time to raise funds for the Cancer Council. The teams completed 2790 laps which is 1395 km of walking

  • My Team 231 laps (Captain Taylor Reeves)
  • We'll never be royal 759 laps team (Captain Alysha Hart)
  • Walkie Talkies 484 laps
  • Super Hawaii 159 laps (only 3 students)
  • Russell Chambers team 472 laps
  • Meme Lords 603 laps
  • Queens 311 laps

The purpose of Relay for Life is to donate funds to the Queensland Cancer Council and Harristown donated $2970 to support this worthwhile cause.

Thanks to staff and fellow Hawks who volunteered their time and energy. Certificates will be in Form Class rolls

11/12 Music

Ms Matheson spoke about the Qld Symphony Orchestra performance this Friday night. See her to collect an excursion form if you wish to go.

The Year 11 and 12 students entered the Karl Orff section of the Toowoomba Eisteddfod. Karl Orff was a German music educator. Instruments such as glockenspiels, metallophones, xylophones and other percussion triangles with accompanying guitar ukulele chords are only permitted. Courtney Taylor organised the section and the group came 2nd on 94 points, a very pleasing result.

The class performed a different spin on Hey Soul Sister for the Assembly. Well done students.
