Principal's Address

Mr Green spoke on the following:
  • Congratulations to the Volleyballers, representing the school at the Senior Schools Cup.
  • Welcome back to the Indigenous students from their Clontarf excursion to the Northern Territory. Mr Green shared a congratulatory email from some fellow travellers who were impressed with their behaviour.
  • Best wishes to the Drama Production Team who are part of "Gate 38"
  • Successful, competent people turn up and turn up to play. It is about how well we engage as students. Congratulations to the students who 'turn up and turn up to play' at school.
  • Balkuin is out in front with attendance but are hotly pursued by Dherwain who are the most improved house. 
  • The lucky draw student, demonstrating excellent behaviour, effort and 100% attendance is Joshua from Y14.
  • Student safety is important. Not only is the wearing of earphones not acceptable at school for appearance, students are encouraged to be careful around roads while wearing them. 

AFL Competition

U17 students were congratulated for their effort during a Friday night competition.

Debating

Caspian and Nick spoke about efforts to create what is now known as the Harristown High Debating Society.

Chess Club

Adrian and Curt spoke about the Chess Club which is on Thursday 2nd break. There is coaching in the Library available.
The Club runs every Thursday after school in the Library.
Secondary Schools Teams Event is coming up in September. More information and permission forms will be available on Thursday 2nd break.

Gold Leader Initiative

Assembly enjoyed a trailer for the Gold Leader Initiative.

Principal’s address

Ms Monagle spoke about the Harristown SHS value of Integrity. She discussed its meaning about demonstrating honesty and having and living by moral principles.
She asked students if they do the right thing all the time, even when no one is watching. She challenged students to model the value of integrity by
  • Placing litter in the bin
  • Playing on the ovals at breaks without tackling
  • Leaving aerosol cans at home
  • Leaving headphones and mobile phones off during school hours
  • Staying away from the staff carpark and driveway

World Education Program

Helen Trotter from WEP spoke about the high school exchange program, an opportunity open to all students 15-18. She introduced Jone, a current exchange student from Belgium who spoke of her reasons for being an exchange student and the benefits of the experiences; “You will learn so much about a new culture, other people and yourself.” You’ll find the information under Related Links or through the WEP website.  

Arts Day

Arts Captains Will and Brittania spoke about Arts Day, encouraging students to enter in one of the many categories.
Entry forms and information can be collected from G block.
