Principal’s address

Mr Green spoke on the following topics:

  • Tribute to Mr David Ballin, the Assistant regional director, who is taking leave prior to retirement
  • Balkuin won the Attendance trophy for Term 2. Which other House can get their name on the trophy?
  • Commit to enter the gates of Harristown SHS and make it become a place where we can work hard, enjoy the community and have fun. We are capable of being litter-free, misbehaviour-free bullying-free.

Corridors of Freedom – Josh Arnold

Josh Arnold, Kelly Buckingham, from MDA and Liam Holcombe, representing the QTU spoke about the Walk Together event in Toowoomba – celebrating diversity and community. Mr Arnold launched the Walk Together YouTube series with Harristown EAL/D and music students involved in the first of a planned 14 episodes. Congratulations to the students who were part of project and to Josh who brought his expertise to the project.

Reader’s Cup

Brittania spoke about the 2016 Hawk Reader’s team, who came a very respectable 5th place in the Darling Downs Regional Reader’s Cup on Wednesday evening, 16th June.  The students had to answer tough and obscure questions relating to five different novels.

Mr Ballin presented certificates to the team:

  • Toby McDonough

Congratulations students. The Premier’s Reading Challenge continues this term and is open to all Year 7 and 8 students. Don’t forget to register at the Library front counter and record your reading with the Library or your English teacher. Happy reading.
