Principal’s address

Mr Green opened his address by reminding students that, to keep a car running well, regular checks on fuel, water and oil need to be done. As the manager of the school, Mr Green’s Term 1 regular check included attendance. As a school we are operating at 92% attendance. While it is not yet achieving our target, it is our best result yet. If one person from each form class changed their habit and attended every day, we would reach target.  Focus on improving our Term 2 attendance rate.

Mr Green then told the story of an ambitious man, showing initiative, who went from workplace to workplace looking for work.  He was employed at a building site and showed up every day and worked diligently and enthusiastically to complete his tasks. At the end of the second day, the employer went to check his work and found that his building measurements were slightly off. While the man was working hard, all the work would have to be redone. Investigating why the work was not done properly, the employer discovered that the man’s measuring tape, purchased from a cheap shop, was short by a couple of millimetres compared to a quality measuring tape.  The moral of the story is that the basics need to be right or results won’t be quality.

Mr Green’s message to students is that the basics for school success are very good or excellent attendance, effort and behaviour. “Get the basics right, then achievement can be improved.”
