Principal’s address

Mr Green spoke to the following topics:
  • Enrolments have skyrocketed, exceeding 1700 students. In Year 7, there are over 330 students. However, our grounds remain the same so we are challenged with some crowding at times. Mr Green reminded students to be sensible in where they choose to be at break times.
  • Mr Green’s props: Rugby league ball, cricket bat and tennis racket
  • Imagine Rugby League, Cricket or Tennis without rules – the games would be a shambles and they wouldn’t attract players or spectators. They wouldn’t be safe or enjoyable. Relating our schooling to a sporting competition, if we took away rules, timetable, bell times or structures, no one would feel safe or enjoy school.
  • Two rules that apply to both these sports and our school.
    • ‘Be there at the start of the game!’ Be here at 8.45am for Form and be ready for the beginning of each lesson.
    • ‘Never leave the field of play.’ Don’t go ‘missing’ from class or school. Follow the procedures in place for sickbay and leaving class or school.

Student Representative Council

Year level prefects, Tiana and Ben spoke about the Student Representative Council (SRC). The SRC is responsible for many of the fundraisers and charity events that occur at school. They organise other projects such as the electronic sign and some of the seating that was put up in the school last year. The SRC is made up of four representatives elected from each year level in grades 7, 8, 10 and 11. It also includes the Junior Secondary and Gold Leaders. We ask for feedback about aspects of the school we could improve from each year level. Nominate for the SRC to get your ideas heard.

The SRC is all about ensuring that students from all year levels have a voice. The Vision for the SRC this year is to focus on further improving the Harristown schooling community. Suggestions that have already been made, such as bubblers, shade and seating, will all be a part of the focus in making our school greater. If you are interested in becoming part of the SRC, speak to your Year Level Coordinator about nominating. If you have questions, please ask any of the Gold Leaders who will be happy to answer. We look forward to working with you this year.

2017 World Challenge trip to Vietnam

Maddi and Callum spoke about the World Challenge trip last year: an adventure of a lifetime. They thanked Mr Lau and Ms Genninges for their support in preparing, helping with fundraising and making it possible.
