Harristown State High School Visual Arts students take out major awards at Junior Art Expo.

Toowoomba Regional Art Gallery is currently holding an art exhibition of works made by students from 5 years of age to 18. This exhibition, called the Junior Art Expo is run by Toowoomba Art Society. Students were invited to submit artworks for selection in the Expo and the Art Society received a massive 640 entries. From these the judges chose only 100 to be included in the exhibition.

8 Harristown SHS students submitted work to the Junior Art Expo. Three of these students, Melanie Kaliyev, Zerasenay Weldenugus and Saeeda Mosavi had their work selected and these works are now on display at the gallery. On Thursday night they were presented with their certificates of achievement.
Zerasenay had a very expressive print selected in the grades 7 & 8 section. Good work Zerasenay.

A very big congratulations must go to Melanie and Saeeda who against some stiff competition, took out some major awards. Melanie won the Open Painting & Multimedia section. For her complex and detailed digital art print Melanie received the Murray’s Award which is $100 voucher for art materials from Murray’s Art & Framing. Saeeda won the Open Printmaking section and was presented with the David Curtis Memorial Award for her beautiful self-portrait.

The Junior Art Expo will be on display at Toowoomba Regional Art Gallery until June 15. There is no charge for entry so be sure to pop in to see all the amazing artworks.
