Assembly Notes

Rebecca wearing a Day for Daniel red ribbon

Assembly was led by Katelyn Barr and Taylee Luchterhand this week. Mr Green opened his address dramatically, having lost his wallet and a five dollar note. After locating them, with the assistance of students, Mr Green then related the drama to distractions and student preparedness for class. Mr Green explained that when we lose our purpose it takes the air out of our balloon. He encouraged students to look hard for their purpose.

Mr Forknall presented the Australian Maths Competition certificates and Achievement awards for Mathletics. Congratulations go to these students. chess competition

Mrs Macdonald spoke about the recent Chess Club Harristown Teams event. She thanked Ross Mills from the Toowoomba Chess Club, who supplied the competition boards and stayed to play, and prominent Chess players Alan and Kevin who gave up time to teach our budding chess players. The inaugural Hawk Pride Chess Teams trophy for Runners up was awarded to the Pawn Stars team and the winners of the competition and the Alan Thomas Chess Teams trophy were the Fluffy Bunnies (pictured). All teams should be congratulated on their participation.

The Year 9 SRC students, Rebecca, Britannia, Sean and Caspian, spoke about the Day for Daniel and encouraged students to wear a red ribbon as a symbol of our own personal safety. Ribbons were distributed at the end of Assembly.
