Assembly Expectations

Mr Prior spoke about the expectations for Assembly:

Assembly is a formal occasion where we celebrate with applause when requested.

Be diligent, learn the words to the National Anthem and School Song, and sing them with pride.

Principal's Address

Mr Green welcomed students and

  • Empathised with the new students, reminding them that being nervous is okay and you are not alone
  • Congratulated Year 10 student, Mason Hughes, for his achievements and for the honour of being named guest speaker for the DD School Sport dinner next month
  • Challenged students, using the occasion of the swimming carnival and his own pool water test kit, to consider how we are often like a pool: deficient in some things such as chlorine and in excess in others such as acid. As people, there are things we are deficient in that we need to add in our life and things we have in abundance. Question:
    • Where am I lacking? Where do I need to add? E.g. more punctuality, homework done before lesson, getting materials
    • Where do I need to reduce? E.g. less talking in class about things other than learning, too much time off task

If we want to end well, we need to begin well by taking stock of ourselves.

Our student recipients of the Mr Green Lucky Student Drawer this week are G18 – Amelia and B09 – Shayel. Congratulations on excellent attendance and results.

Arts Update

Arts Prefects Jasmine and Ryan spoke about upcoming Arts Productions and events:

  • Auditions for Drama production next week:  The play for this year is “Children of the Black Skirt” which is a gothic fairytale for young people. Three lost children discover an abandoned orphanage in the bush and learn a history of Australia through the spirits of children who have lived there.
  • Meeting for everyone wanting to be involved in Instrumental Music tomorrow
  • Meetings about CGen and the Harristones next week

There’s something for everyone – dance, drama, music, vocal, media and visual art so come and find out so you don’t miss out. Listen to notices for details.

Sports Update

Mr Burchardt spoke about the Swimming Carnival procedures and expectations. He also stated that if you wish to participate in Toowoomba and Darling Downs sport trials you must nominate through Mr Burchardt and he sends it on to the convenor of the trail. The Sports Office is Q33.
