Assembly Leaders: Year-Level Prefects, Emily and Phoenix

Acknowledgement of Country: Michael Isaacs

Principal’s Address

Mr Green spoke about the following:

  • Congratulations on the fabulous end to term 3 with Arts Day;
  • Welcome back USA Football tourists and World Challenge participants
  • Key message from the last minutes of the NRL final: Never, ever give up. We will find times in life where we don’t actually know what to do. Just try something and ask someone who you think can help you. Never give up.
  • Coaching lessons with Form Teachers will occur for Years 7 to 10 this week, and Years 11 and 12 next week. Look at your personal targets and the school target of B or better. How did we go at this school? For every year level, the Term 3 percentage is better than the last term.
  • The Gold Leaders need you to model our value of participation during the Initiative and give it your best shot.

Creative Generation Excellence Awards in Visual Art

Tesi and Jadzia spoke about the Queensland “Creative Generation Excellence Awards in Visual Art” which recognises excellence in senior visual art. Year 12 students Jemimah Hockey, Jacinta Taylor, Sarah Hollis and Sinead Leane were accepted as finalists in the prestigious regional exhibition. Their work was hung in an exhibition held at the Toowoomba Regional Art Gallery, along with other artworks considered the best in the region. Mr Green presented the students with their certificates. And their artworks are on display in the foyer. Congratulations students.

A special congratulations is extended to Jacinta Taylor, who was also selected as one of only 24 Art students in Queensland to attend the Flying Arts, Write about Art Program. Her writing was deemed to be of an exceptional standard. She has attended an intensive workshop at the Queensland Art Gallery of Modern Art, and will now work with tutors to compete a written work for publication in Eyeline Magazine. Congratulations, Jacinta!

Creative Generation State Schools on Stage

Keely and Chloe spoke about Creative Generation State Schools Onstage, a professional production showcasing the talents of over 1200 state school students from Prep to Year 12.  The show features a wide range of dance, instrumental and choral music performances and the four performances wouldn’t be possible without the support of the amazing stage and film crew.  2015 was Harristown’s 10th year of involvement in the show.  It was also the first time we had singers in the show.  Caleb Harvey went through three rounds of auditions to be selected as a featured singer.  Emily-Jane Harvey and Sharee Muller did an amazing job as part of the 600 voice massed choir.

26 of Harristown’s most talented dancers performed in the show, joining students from Mt Lofty and Wilsonton to form the Darling Downs Dance Ensemble.  This group performed in four numbers in the show including the finale with 600 other dancers on stage.  Year 10 student Maddy Cybulski was selected by audition to be part of the CGen Dance Ensemble.  Year 12 student Tesi Koka was also selected by audition to perform in an additional three numbers and, along with Caleb, spent many weekends travelling to and from Brisbane for rehearsals - a huge commitment!

Our amazing Tech Crew were also successful once again in their application to be a part of the Creative Generation Stage Crew.  They did the school proud, working long hours during show week and performing many different roles in the show including moving bands and their equipment on and off stage.  The highlight for the crew was when Darcy, Will and Caspian got to perform in “Greased Lightnin” – a pretty good effort considering their lack of dance experience!

The following students were presented with certificates of achievement:

  • Featured Singer:  Caleb Harvey
  • Massed Choir:  Emily-Jane Harvey, Sharee Muller
  • CGen Dance Ensemble: Maddy Cybulski
  • Featured Dancer: Tesi Koka
  • Stage Crew: Tom Crimean, Darcy Bionda- Smith, Caspian Inskip, Will Johnston
  • Captains/Massed Dance: Keely Beutel and Chloe Ledger
  • Massed Dance: Jorjina-Rose Andreadis, Georgia Antell, Hannah Budde, Dayna Carter, Saxon Clews, Tahlia Cottier, Susannah Dudman, Mardi Duncan, Mikayla Edards, Teanna Hohn, Molly Ledger, Tiffany Matthews, Jasmin McLoughlin, Mikaela Ribot de Bresac, Claire Russo, Madi Savory, Caitlin Schaumann, Serena Sharkey, Bianca Verblakt, Kerrie Walsh

The Assembly congratulated the students and enjoyed a snapshot of images from the show. If you’re interested in being involved in 2016 watch for notices in November. You’ll have an amazing time.
