Academic Academy

Information for parents and students

Commencing in Semester Two, Harristown State High School offers an exciting opportunity to academically capable, highly motivated and enthusiastic students in Year 8.  All Year 8 students have the opportunity to apply for a position in the Academy.  Through a rigorous selection and evidence-based process, students are then offered a place in the Academy.

Aims and Objectives

In the interests of differentiation and enrichment the aim of the Academic Academy is to provide students with a program of extension and enrichment in their identified areas of ability - namely Mathematics and/or English and/or Science and/or Humanities.

In addition, some students will have the opportunity to:

  • Participate in a series of ACER High Achieving Selection Tests, for analysis of their ability in a number of aptitudes.
  • Participate in a variety of academic competitions and enrichment activities.
  • Accelerate through learning areas where the student is identified as being potentially gifted and talented.
